The Locals and Their Culture

Seychellois society is essentially matriarchal. Women occupy the dominant position in the household. They control the expenditures and look after their children’s interests. Due to the mixed races in Seychelles, the culture in this place is quite colourful and interesting. This is reflected in their hand-made items, cuisines, arts, music, etc. Locals love music and as part of their culture, they enjoy the sounds of kanmtorag or raga-muffin, reggae, sega music and blues to name a few of the musical genres popular in this region.

To truly experience the culture of the Seychellois, you should try and visit during the Kreol Festival which is held on October. There will be a lot of street partying where people dance to local music, exhibit authentic arts and crafts and their spicy Kreol food.
